Reflections on Life & Living

This week's insight and inspiration for life and living.
“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
Pablo Picasso.

TAKE YOUR TIME WITH LIFE.
A life lesson that has come into greater clarity for me this year. As humans, we are blessed with the power to pause and be mindful. We are not in bondage to the knee-jerk reactions of freeze, fight, or flight. Mindfulness in the moment opens our hearts to discernment and in most cases that discernment invites us to be mindful beyond the moment. Push pause, walk away, take your time, and circle back when clarity comes to you. Then our insight, intentions, decisions, and determinations are better aligned with our individual and collective greater good!

THE STAGING OF AGING.
There’s nothing like a birthday, especially in the later ages of life, to take time for a life review. It’s so easy as we age to slow down and become ‘set in our ways’ and deny ourselves one of the primary joys of being human, the living, learning, and growing of life. For me, it’s less about aging and more about staging through life. Each stage of life offers us unique opportunities for living, learning, growing, being, and becoming, each fulfilling our own unique potential for life and living. Sure, at this stage of my life I’ve had to release many of the interests I had in earlier years but that’s blessed me to be able to create time and space for other interests, of equal joy and fulfillment, better aligned who I am now, and where I am in this stage of life. If you find yourself resonating with my experience, message me or contribute to the comments conversation below. Let’s share some insight and inspiration that may be helpful to each other.

TIME IS PRECIOUS.
The recent passing of a long-time friend pulled me into reflection about that one thing we all share: the experience of life and living. I’m at the age and stage in life when I’m reminded all too frequently of the fragility of our mortality, that we ‘are here today and gone tomorrow,’ that life is fleeting and time is precious, and it’s a sobering recognition. Thankfully this reflection and reminder doesn’t fill me with remorse, or regret, but inspires me with greater insight and aspiration for life and living. My time will come, and probably sooner than expected, but today I’m alive, and today I’m blessed with life, and today I have the opportunity to live, and for that, I am fulfilled in grace and gratitude. As a younger man, my aspiration was for fame and fortune, but today I live in the hope and intention of a greater aspiration: the awakened, enlightened and illuminated consciousness of humanity. A consciousness that inspires us to transcend the distinction and discrimination of race, culture, creed, religion, gender, or gender orientation. A consciousness that enables us to connect and collaborate in harmony, union, and unity. A consciousness that empowers us to work together toward the individual and collective common good of all, a family of humanity, co-creating a world that offers each and all the promise of a life of peace, purpose, and prosperity. With each new day, this aspiration grows, there is much to be done and time moves on. Will you join me?
